hawaii

I just got back from Hawaii, and have made the following observations:
1. Hawaii is beautiful. Between Kevin and I, I’ll bet we took over 500 pictures. What the heck am I supposed to do with 500 pictures! How many scenes of beaches, hillsides, waterfalls, or lava flows do you need to remember a trip? OK, the lava flow was kind of cool.
2. While on the trip, I kept thinking I needed to bring my “kids” something back. Parenthood-your kids will always be kids I guess. Those “kids” however are successful adult women. They can take their own trip and bring me something! (Grandkids, now that’s what I need.)
3. The first week of our trip was spent in Honolulu. While Kevin was at his meeting, I spent my time at the beach, shopping, hiking Diamond Head, playing golf, but mostly people watching. Can someone explain to me the Japanese wedding culture? I saw dozens of Japanese couples having their wedding pictures taken in a park but they were always alone with just the camera crew and a limo. I even attended a wedding-well from 10 yards away, but I was the only attendee. If my kids get married in Hawaii, I’m going too!
4. The last 3 days of our trip were spent on the Big Island which is not known for its beaches, but more for volcanoes, lava, and hiking. Day 1-first stop-I stepped on a lava rock-it moved-so did I-not gracefully-pulled my hamstring. We spent the next hour at a drug store getting ice and bandage wraps. Hiking was really slow! Main observation…man was that stupid!!
5. Parts of Hawaii have problems with traffic, many homeless, and even more tourists, but it also has beautiful weather, great beaches, and beautiful scenery. I’d return any time.

I hope your summer travels take you some place special, even if it’s close to home!
