A really long observation: Manhattan, KS vs Manhattan, NY
1. In Manhattan, KS you get free chips and salsa and refillable fountain drinks. In Manhattan, NY it will cost you $7 for chips and $3 for the refill. I need to cut back on that Diet Dr. Pepper anyway.
2. In Manhattan, KS I would walk down to my basement to do my laundry. In Manhattan, NY I dragged a wheeled laundry basket down the block and around the corner where they weigh your clothes and you come back in a day or two to pick them up, well unless the gas is broken and nothing works so I wheeled it all back around the corner, down the street to Kelli’s-in the rain!
3. In Manhattan, KS I live in a 3500+ square foot house. In Manhattan, NY Kelli lives in a 350 square foot apartment. Mortgage and rent–about the same!
4. In Manhattan, KS you can go to a play of some kind probably every other week-which is not too bad! In Manhattan, NY you can go to 100’s of plays and shows every night. And I have-Colbert, Hamilton, Kinky Books, with Aladdin and the Chew and more to come.
5. In Manhattan, KS I walk the 7 blocks to Aggieville only on a really nice day or on a run to get a donut:) In Manhattan, NY I walk 7 blocks just to get to the subway to get anywhere else. Why did I leave the fitbit at home?
6. In Manhattan, KS it takes 10 minutes to get almost anywhere. In Manhattan, NY it takes at least 4 times that long. Yesterday Kate and I probably spent 3 hours on the subway from the Brooklyn Flea to Williamsburg to Times Square to 5th Avenue back to Times Square and then to Brooklyn. What a great day! It’s like driving from Manhattan to Lawrence and back. But why would anyone do that?!
7. In Manhattan, KS you get in your car and drive to get your groceries. In Manhattan, NY you pick something up every night or you get your little shopping bag cart and get a couple days worth of stuff. Or like most things in Manhattan, NY you just order it and have it delivered! They deliver anything!
Which is better? Neither. They are just really different!
