No worries…we’re in Australia
Day 1. Time Travel
Ever wanted to go back in time or in to the future? You don’t need a Jules Verne time machine. Just fly to Australia. We left on a Wednesday afternoon and just 17 hours later it’s Friday morning. Shouldn’t it be Thursday afternoon? Observation: a time machine would be easier. The plane time machine still takes 17 hours!

Day 2 or 3…who knows. Sydney in a day
Can you really see Sydney Australia in a day? Probably not, but we try it anyway. Opera House, Circular Quay, ferry to Manley beach, lunch, some famous gardens (I really should know the name of it.) back to the airport for a night flight to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. We covered the highlights, right?

Day 3. Cairns. What happened to the letter “R”?
Cairns. Or is in Cans? It could be Canes? I’ve heard it both ways. We were definitely never in Cairns!
The Great Barrier Reef is the Reef though. So…? Later in this Australia adventure we’re going to Melbourne. But I think we are really going to Melbun or perhaps Melbon. Language, even when all in English is interesting.

Day 4. Blue Mountains. I’m not 21 any more!
I’m not 21 any more, but seem to have no trouble keeping up with the 14 students we are traveling with who are. Actually they seem to need more sleep, coffee, and beer than I do. Good thing. So far this trip has been nonstop. Today, hiking the Blue Mountains.
Ok, I wrote that before the hike to Wentworth Falls. Going down was fine. Coming back up, a whole different story. We may have shown our age on that one😀

Trip recap…17 hours of flights, Sydney in a day, fly 3 hours more, Great Barrier Reef Reef snorkeling, another 3 hour flight back to Sydney, hike the Blue Mountains. This would be equivalent to flying 17 hours to get to New York City to see it in 1 day, fly to Orlando to see Diseyworld in a day, fly back to New York to go hike in the Berkshires. Looking into the future you’d then drive 6 hours to some farms and then on to tour Chicago for a day. Observation: What were we thinking!
Day 5 Brown snakes will kill you!
Cherry orchards and wheat fields, irrigation pipe and snakes oh my.

Day 6. Another farm and the competition begins…
Beautiful canola fields and time to relax and read a book.

Day 7. Aussie boys and their short shorts.
Some trends just don’t need to come to the US! Short shorts, long socks and boots. OK I liked the boots and actually bought some, but the rest of the outfit will stay in Australia. They also like these shirts with 3 buttons and 2 large pockets. It’s almost like a uniform on the farm. Other Aussie traits…they like their beer, they drive on the left, always eat with their left hand with the fork upside down, and are all very hospitable. Schnitzel just means breaded, beetroot is a beet and they use it instead of pickles, give way is yield, no worries is said a lot, and kangaroos really are everywhere!

Day 8 and maybe Day 9 The contest continues
More fields, more food and a few sheep…

Day 10 The Great Ocean Road
Beautiful is all that needs to be said.
Day…oh who knows It’s time to go home. We’ll be there is a mere 20 hours or so.

Well unless we miss our plane in LA and end up in Seattle. What a trip!
