5k observation:
I “ran” in a 5k race in Chicago over the Easter weekend. I hadn’t done that in a while. Now I remember why…
I hate to run. What’s the point. It’s too much work. Walking will get me to the same place. I did get a shiny medal at the end and a 1/4 zip wind shirt that I’ll probably never wear again. BUT I paid like $50 bucks for that stuff! There’s probably a charity involved so I guess that’s good.
BUT I got hot even though it was under 50 degrees at the start. Maybe I had on a few too many layers. (I hate to be cold!) My legs hurt when I was finished. Maybe that is what stretching before and after is for. (Hmmmmm). In the race I pick a person to stay close to but just as I catch up to them they take off in a sprint and I have to catch them all over again. When that fails I end up behind a sweet looking younger women with the shortest legs, carrying an oversized kids backpack (no kids in sight) and wonder how is she running faster than I am. Also I truly think I can walk faster than I run! Anyway I made it to the finish line, the weather was beautiful and we went out for breakfast afterward, so I guess it was worth getting up for. (Maybe)
If that 5k bug strikes again I think I will just stroll. It would probably be much more enjoyable.
Side note: I finished third in my age group…and there were more than 3 people in the group. I still think a stroll is the way to go. Must have been what the rest of my age group thought!
